i've attempted...

...my first culinary artpiece...

since moving into our new home, i have yet to start cooking... (ok, that's a lie. i haven't cooked since i left the UK).

i had many reasons why i didn't start cooking:

  1. ill-equipped kitchen: i am the sort that wants everything in place. proper cookware, neat & clean kitchen, proper storage, bla bla bla. yes...i can be a pain like that.
  2. too busy: sorting out the rest of the house. there is just so much to do. constantly buying stuff for the house and the cleaning! my God...i never knew i could be such sp particular about this...i mean considering my history of having the messiest room in the house.
  3. too scared: that i will screw up the cooking. i am a very simple cook. grill this, steam that. mcdreamy is probably used to having the delicious malay home-cooked food, of which i have no idea HOW to cook. sambal tumis? yikes.
as you can see, these were valid reasons.
so, one fine Sunday morning...i remembered the dozen eggs i bought a week before. best that i cook them before it goes bad. felt like having scrambled eggs anyway...

walk towards the stove. it is not a gas stove. so, i assumed it were hot plates. it had these white plates in place of the hob. so, took out the non-stick ceramic fyring pan my mom gave me. strong. very sturdy (and heavy!). feeling all chef-y, i placed it onto the hob.

now. how do i turn this stove on. pressed a few buttons, which resembled the power symbol. it came to life. but it started beeping. and shut off a few seconds later.

wtf.

after calling out to mcdreamy for help, we were trying to make head or tail of the stove. it turned out that these were not hot plates. but induction heat stove. and i went..."huh?"

Induction is a third method, completely different from all other cooking technologies-- it does not involve generating heat which is then transferred to the cooking vessel, it makes the cooking vessel itself the original generator of the cooking heat. (taken from theinductionsite.com)

so, these induction heat stoves are supposed to be the latest technology of stoves worldwide. apparently healthier and safer to use...however had one huge limitation. you can only use certain materials for cookware. namely, stainless steel, alumimium, copper...anything that inducts heat.

HENCE, all the pots and pans i currently have does not work on this stove. oh, except for the one that came WITH the stove. a stainless steel wok...but not non-stick. which means...after making the scrambled eggs...it was not an easy task cleaning it.

so, doing more research on this...i found some cookware, which works on induction stoves, which are ALSO non-stick! woo hoo!

went to isetan after work yesterday, browsed through all the brands. finally settled for...

Tefal Preference Stirfry Pan

*clap clap clap* so happy with my purchase. all shiny and non-sticky...i love it.

so feeling all chef-y and wife-y...bought some ingredients...and i cooked something simple (it was my first dish after all!)...

la spaghetti bolegnese...

think mcdreamy enjoyed it. well, hopefully he did. he is after all stuck with my cooking...like...forever...

:p

xoxo, amatuer chef...
