it was a conversation about 2 "blondes" (they were going, like duuh...whatever...."...
so Blonde 1 was commenting on Blonde 2's shopping bags. there were so many!
and basically, the message behind it is:
"Try not to use many plastic bags when you go shopping"
i am very happy to hear that at least the media is playing this up.
i am one of those, who think that if everyone puts in a little effort (you don't have to go tree-hugging), it COULD make a difference in our lives (environmentally at least!).
Did you know?
Everyday, one Malaysian produces 0.5-0.8 kgs worth of waste!
That makes 15-24 kgs a person every month!
And if a household has an average of 3 persons, this makes 45-72 kgs worth of waste from each household!
It may be the little things like:
- using less plastic bags...either bring your own bag to shops...or...do you really need a plastic bag for a bottled water that you want to consume straight away or that small piece of chocolate?
- do not litter. seriously. it is not that difficult to just keep that piece of tissue (THAT YOU USE) in your bag first. or your pocket. and if you really don't like to hold onto it...find a bin. even though some things are "biodegradable"...it takes a long time for it to do so. and if everyone thinks like you...then we will just have a pile of rubbish
- separate your trash. especially glass and plastic. if you are in the vincinity of a recycling centre...even better! if not, just separating the trash (have a special bin in your home for different materials)...and the garbage man will know what to do with it.
- turn off the tap WHILE you are brushing your teeth...or washing your face. only turn it on when you want to rinse. it is amazing how much you can save on this.
- air-condition. turn it off when you are not in the room. air condition actually emits a certain pollutant gas. if every household uses air-condition everyday...*sigh*...
so, if you don't think you want to have to move to Mars because the whole of Earth is just full of waste...then...do your part. however small it is.
