liver maintenance part 1...

i finally succumbed to my mother's request to read this book on how to lose weight safely and effectively...

the main idea: the reason for weight gain, sluggish body system, sleeping disorders, cravings, etc. is a problematic liver.

this is news to me, considering that i never knew that this organ had anything to do with weight management!?

What about the liver?

it is the largest internal organ in our body
it weighs about 3 lbs.

what does it do?
1. to produce substances that break down fats
2. to convert glucose to glycogen
3. to produce urea (the main substance of urine)
4. to make certain amino acids (the building blocks of proteins)
5. to filter harmful substances from the blood (such as alcohol)
6. to store vitamins and minerals (vitamin A, D, K and B12)
7. to maintain a proper level or glucose in the blood.

so, if we were to load our body (hence, our liver) with fatty foods and chemicals/additives/pollution, it will OVER-load the liver. This will cause it to congest and unable to perform the above properly.

just picture a sinkhole. we always throw a lot of things into the sink. the more yucky stuff goes in (like grease), you will soon see that water does not go down the sinkhole as fast as it should. so, what do we do?

we use the plunger.

in the same case as our liver, we would need to clean it up once in a while, and make sure we don't put as much bad stuff into our bodies.
enlightening stuff huh?
i will post up more info when i get back from work...:)
