- i didn't have my own money. or my own car. this would naturally mean that i have no decision making power. final purchase is still decided by the parentals.
- generous bottoms are only good when you are an adult, because it is seen as "sexy" or "curvy". when you are a teen, you are just "rotund".
- during those times, jeans were made for those who are not horizontally challenged. therefore, it could never fit properly. and it could never look right.
the numerous arguments i used to have with my parents on one of these "shopping expeditions" were memorable (though, i'd rather not remember it). the usual thing that happened.
(enter shop, and picked a few styles)
(tries on jeans. look into mirror and gaped at how horrendous it looked)
"mrs mumsie, no. don't like it"
(enter 1,000,000th shop. yes. i am exagerrating. at this point feeling tired, frustrated and wishing i had skinnier thighs. oh and a smaller butt)
(parents are obviously pissed off at this point of time)
(mrs mumsie takes on dictator position and orders me to try jeans)
(naturally jeans still looks like s***)
(mrs mumsie insists no! mr popsie validates)
(i am in tears)
(purchase made)
(jeans worn once...and never again)
so, as you can see, my relationship with jeans are very...painful. from then on, i never wore jeans (cause i never found a pair) until my college years.
even then, i was still more of a trousers and heels type of girl. until i met a boy. a skater boy. thankfully i have also reached optimum figure at this point of time. i could actually fit into a size 26 Levi's!
my denim adventure continued to the UK, where i bought different brands. Western brands are more forgiving to my body. Top shop, Mavi, Firetrap were my favourites.
it was here that i discovered the most amazing jeans. claimed to be MADE just for girls with generous bottoms. For All Mankind. but i could never afford a pair. it ranged from RM700-1000 a pair!
thankfully, now that i do have a paying job. and i was fortunate enough to find a pair on sale in Singapore. i bought my first For All Mankind jeans. and everything everyone said about it...was true.
now, to find me another pair. because feeling a bit bored with the whole faded look.
singapore anyone?
