Time to walk to work...

or change jobs to somewhere nearer to home?
petrol is now officially 40% more expensive!!
it used to be RM1.92 and now, it has been pushed up to RM2.70!!

when the announcement was made on Wednesday night (4 June) that petrol prices were going to hike up from midnight onwards, i could sense the panic arising amongst my colleagues.

well, some were exclaiming loudly, and some were saying that it is bound to happen.

everyone was making plans to leave early to fill up their cars. i got carried away because i actually wanted to join in too! but, thankfully for some "work" that i needed to finish up, i saved myself the pain, anger, stress and heck, petrol by NOT rushing.

however, i did face through the said pain, anger, stress...and to a certain extent petrol, when i was stuck in a traffic jam for 1 1/2 hours! crazy! and to make matters worst, because some insensitve human being decided to turn right from the furthest left lane, which is supposed to go straight. this forced me to turn right WITH him. which ended me being in a 15min jam...3 mins away from my house. *yuck*.

but, even so i STILL didn't fill up my tank, because the jam is ridiculous. so, i guess for RM20, i saved part of whatever sanity is left in me...

now, time for the mathematics...

i usually spend RM50 per week, which lasts me for 5-6 days, depending on whether i take the same route everyday.
40% increase in petrol would mean that i will need to spend RM70 per week now!
OR my RM50 will only last me for 3-4 days!

either way, this does not spell "MORE SHOPPING" for me. this means going cold turkey on acclaimed shopaholism (no, i am not admitting i am one. this is a mere exagerrated claim from certain parties).

mcdreamy says that this petrol hike could work in our favour.
  • LESS CARS on the road, because it might be cheaper to just take public transport to work.
  • LESS TRAFFIC JAM, which means SPARED SANITY
  • LESS POLLUTION, which means HEALTHIER ME!
  • BETTER HYBRID CARS - because it just makes sense
  • MORE REASON to change jobs NEARER to home (or retire)

however, on the other side of things.

  • LESS SHOPPING for me...or not. this could mean that i just need to get PAID MORE or have something that will give me CONSTANT CASH FLOW (like a generous husband?) ;)
  • INCREASED food prices...cause...they need petrol to fuel the vehicles that transports the goods?
  • LESS TRAVELLING...cause air tickets will cause a bomb Note: Not because of RM2.70 petrol hike, but more on the GENERAL GLOBAL petrol price increase...happy mcdreamy?
  • NO BEAUTIFUL CARS with gas-guzzling feature.
  • Can't change jobs...cause...i love my job?

well, this is my take on the petrol hike. on thursday, things were pretty much the same. nobody lost a leg/arm/ear fighting their way to the pump (at least none that i know of!).

so, i think we will survive.
